Tomie Seo: Exhibit @ Caetani Cultural Centre
Tomie Seo’s work depicts the hidden political and social structures of the world by focusing on racism, gender and identity - those who are repressed and victimized.
She believes that the phenomena of this world is intertwined and related - like light and shadow, cause and effect - and often juxtaposes opposite images through photo-realistic drawing, painting, video and sculpture with electronics to create interactive installations which represent a diorama or map of a whole structure or system.
As part of her exhibition, she’s inviting people to come and take part in her free Community Utopian Drawing Project, which is an invitation to enjoy drawing and using art as a communication tool, to express feelings and identities.
Bring a sense of playful fun, curiosity and a friend or two!

Artist Workshop: Heidi Thompson @ Vernon Public Art Gallery
This hands-on painting workshop will help beginner and advanced artists break away from “realism” techniques and discover abstraction in nature. Heidi will demonstrate painterly techniques used by Van Gogh and Monet. Participants will learn to identify abstract elements in nature and translate them into light, line, shapes, space, and colour. Please bring an 11 x 14 photocopy of a landscape that you love, free of buildings, people or animals. Also make sure to wear painting clothes! Everyone will leave with a beautifully finished nature-inspired painting on canvas. There are only 10 spots available for this workshop so make sure to register soon so you don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! Tickets are $40 for VPAG members and $50 for non-members.

Alex Zerbe’s Zaniac Comedy Show @ Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre
With captivating amounts of energy, Alex Zerbe moves like a rubber band from one end of the stage to the other in his show Alex Zerbe’s Zaniac Comedy Show. Beatboxing, juggling, dancing, singing, music and magic are just a few of the things that led Piers Morgan of America’s Got Talent to call Alex, “the total package.”
The “Professional Zaniac,” who’s been cracking jokes onstage for almost 15 years, zigzags between physical stunts and non-stop comedy. During the show vegetables are sliced in half by flying playing cards, flaming torches and bowling balls are juggled with ease and every audience volunteer leaves the stage in triumph.
A self-described “human cartoon,” his show isn’t just for the kids in the family. “I try to make my show like the movie Shrek, super entertaining for the kids but there’s a whole other level of comedy for teens and adults,” says Zerbe.
Formerly of the award-winning duo Brothers from Different Mothers, Zerbe is a Hacky Sack World Champion, was voted The Pacific Northwest’s Funniest Prop Comic and is currently ranked Seattle’s 3rd Best Air Guitarist. He’s performed everywhere from cruise ships and comedy clubs to prime-time television in three countries, including “America’s Got Talent!” and “Last Comic Standing.”
Tickets for Alex Zerbe’s Zaniac Comedy Show are $12 for all ages. Call the Ticket Seller Box Office at 250-549-SHOW (7469) or log online to www.ticketseller.ca for tickets and more information.

Poetry Master Class with John Lent @ Caetani Cultural Centre
John Lent presents two Master Classes in Prose and Poetry at the Caetani Cultural Centre!
Masterclasses are 8 weeks in duration, with one three hour session per week plus additional one-on-one time with noted author John Lent.
Class membership is limited to 12 advanced writers working on a manuscript.

Tuition: $425.00 per course.
REGISTER ONLINE NOW FOR WINTER POETRY MASTERCLASS

Classes will be a mixture of discussions about contemporary poetry, demonstrations in writing and editing poetry (especially short and long forms), and critiquing sessions that will focus on class members’ work.

There is nothing in the world quite like the density of poetry. It can be so fascinating and demanding, so exquisite. My hope is that we will create a community of poets looking out for one another and pushing ourselves toward publication. Again, this should be the ideal class for any poet who is working away in solitude and could use the support and clarity that a small community of like- minded poets can provide sometimes.

If you are interested in exploring my career as a professional writer, teacher and editor so you understand my background and interests in poetry better, please visit my website: www.johnlent.ca
