So happy to have seen the return of the sky to our lives over the last week! Fresh Air! YAY!! The smoke surely did seem to cut summer short, however. The nights seem to come much earlier and are cooler  - and the days require layers!

Welcome to the 119th IPE! This year we are honouring the sheep division (hashtag us #sheepthrills)! It's all we can do to not pull the fleece over your eyes. Ewe are going to have wonderful time at the fair...so start counting your sheep now until the start of the IPE...

We are proud to bring you new vendors, attractions, and entertainment for all audiences. The family fun will continue at the Armstrong fair with many opportunities to experience agriculture at its finest.

Come and see all the action in the rodeo ring. Armstrong is also the location for the Finning Canada Canada Pro Tour and Finals! The RAM Truck Stage has some great entertainment along with the Youth Talent Show. Don’t forget to go to Kids World to see exciting attractions and shows -- new! a trapeze show this year -- and the midway where West Coast Amusements will have great games and rides. New this year: bring those household treasures you no longer use to the Great Canadian Roadshow!

The traditions continue with the annual IPE parade on Saturday morning at 10am.
With over 100 entries, the IPE Parade will start at 10:00am sharp.

The parade will start by Country West Supply and travel along Pleasant Valley Blvd. then finishing along Smith Dr. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs and come early to avoid traffic delays.

Summertime Corn Maze @ Historic O'Keefe Ranch
The O’Keefe Ranch welcomes guests of all ages to find their way through our brand new corn maze. The first of 3 that will open this year, the Summertime Corn Maze is good old-fashioned fun for everyone.
It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to reach the end of the 2 1/2 acre maze and it’s full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Take your time and stroll through the stocks or make it a race to see who finishes first. Learn some corny fun-facts along the way; it will be a-maze-ing!

Head to the Grandstand on the IPE grounds to watch the action of the Rodeo!
This popular event starts at 6:45 pm each night of the IPE!
During the Fair, Rodeo Tickets are sold from 8:30 am to 7 pm at the IPE office (across from the fairgrounds). Then from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm each day, tickets are available for purchase at the Rodeo Ticket Booth on the grounds in front of the Red Grandstand. You can also purchase your tickets online 24 hours a day.   No need to wait in line.

Her music career began in a small suburban town of Sydney Australia and since then has taken her on an incredible journey throughout the globe.  Combining tasteful blues and slide guitar, soulful vocals and a heartfelt approach to songwriting, Kara’s  truly unique sound will leave you  uplifted, inspired and always wanting more.

At the age of 16 Kara joined with her brother Mitch Grainger to form the band "Papa Lips". The band toured consistently throughout Australia and produced two studio albums that received national air play.

The band was heavily influenced by the sounds of Stax recording in Memphis, and by the Funky style of blues and soul that derived from New Orleans.

Length Of The Lake 2018 @ Kin Beach
Join us on Sunday, September 2, 2018 for this one-of-a-kind Ultra-Paddling race on scenic Okanagan Lake!
The race starts at Kin Beach in Vernon at 7:00 AM (6 AM for early starters) and ends 100 kilometres later on Okanagan Beach in Penticton. In between are four on-shore aid station/check points where paddlers and their support crews will find water, washrooms, and parking.The race may be long, but the list of rules is short. In a nutshell, crews must arrive at each check point before the designated cut-off times. Crew changes are optional, but may take place only at the check points.
Race registration includes an after-race dinner and some kind of swag. Race categories with three or more entries by the early registration deadline (midnight  August 18, 2018) are considered official and are eligible for prizes.  Unofficial, including “build-your-own” categories are welcome and are eligible for bragging rights and a place in the Length of the Lake Ultra-paddle history books.

Mural Tours @ Downtown Vernon
Join Vernon Museum Education Coordinator Gabriel Newman as he walks you through downtown Vernon sharing anecdotes and history that inspired Vernon’s outdoor art gallery. From murals depicting the world wars, to the beautiful pottery of Axel Ebring, the Okanagan Indian Band, cowboys, and multiculturalism, over 28 different murals are found in the downtown core. These works of art created by a collaboration of artists depict the history, culture, scenery, and folklore that have made Vernon what it is today.

Tours leave from the steps of the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives (GVMA), 3009-32nd Ave., Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 am, June 1st to September 28th. Limited to 20 per tour. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://www.eventbrite.ca or at the door for $5.00 cash only please.

Observational Astronomy: Software, Simulation, and Apps @ The Vernon Library
Astronomer and Simon Fraser University instructor Robert Conrad will lead an in-depth look at using software, simulation, and apps to further your understanding of observational astronomy.
Participants will apply what they have learned on their computers and smartphones and people should bring a fully charged laptop PC or MAC with Stellarium installed. Those in attendance will learn how to use the free and powerful astronomy software program to understand the motions of the sky, learn the constellations, plan for and practice observing deep-sky treasures.
This software can also be used to practice the art of star-hopping as well as learning about the types of deep sky objects that are of interest to observational astronomers and how to locate them in the night sky.

Words of Our Chiefs @ Vernon Performing Arts Centre
The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly presents Savage Society’s Words of Our Chiefs on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre as part of the 2018/19 SPOTLIGHT Special Presentation Series.  
The Savage Society performs a staged reading of Words of Our Chiefs; a dramatic enactment of the Laurier Memorial, an historical document petitioning Sir Wilfred Laurier in 1910 by the Allied Chiefs of the Interior Tribes of British Columbia, to recognize and help them fight for aboriginal rights. This powerful document outlines the Aboriginal experience in the BC interior since first contact.
Signed by the Secwepemc, Syilx and Nlaka’pamux peoples at Spences Bridge, British Columbia in 1910, the ideas and emotions expressed in this 108 year old historical document remain relevant to the First Nations experience today. Created with community members of Lytton and the Nlaka’pamux Nation, contributing artists in Words of Our Chiefs include Kevin Loring, Aaron Wells, Kim Harvey, Ron Dean Harris, Sandy Scofield and N’laka’pamux community members.
The performance will be opened by a performance by Mariel Belanger, a Vernon-based multi-disciplinary artist of the Okanagan Nation, Okanagan Indian Band, Vernon.
Tickets for Words of Our Chiefs are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and $15 for students.

September 7 & 8, Friday & Saturday – Murder Mystery Dinner Show at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch. The year is 1918 and the “war to end all wars” is grinding to a close, leaving millions of young men dead on the battlefield. At the little settlement of O’Kannigan, no one has escaped the trauma of the war. Among the many damaged people, is someone who has let the darkness overcome them. The result is a murder that leaves everyone stunned. This horrible crime must not go unpunished and your help is needed!

Vocalist Cat Wells knows how to reach into your soul as if relaying your own heartfelt tragedy with her emotion filled, energetic and impromptu brand of Blues. With her earliest idols being Miss Billie Holiday followed by Etta James and Janis Joplin, it’s not surprising to hear hints of Jazz and Funk thrown in there as well. Her poignant use of phasing and creative manipulation of notes whisk you into a smokey bayou where you experience her own interpretive twist on styles.
Born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Toronto’s suburbs, Cat began singing at an early age. In fact her grade one report card boasts “Cathy-Ann loves to sing and entertains us quite frequently”. She has run the gambit on musical styles including Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Funk, Jazz and finally Blues.
Cat has shared the stage with "the Ray Charles Orchestra", Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne and Harpdog Brown and has opened for ZZ Top, Crash Test Dummies, Jeff Healey, Rita Chiarelli and countless others. She has performed from Alaska to Russia and through the Caribbean in venues as small as 30 people and to audiences as large as 10,000.

RUMBLE100 is a four-piece rock and classic rock cover band encompassing a wide range of song favourites, from AC/DC and the Tragically Hip to Justin Timberlake and Elle King.
