So happy to have seen the return of the sky to our lives over the last week! Fresh Air! YAY!! The smoke surely did seem to cut summer short, however. The nights seem to come much earlier and are cooler - and the days require layers!

Summertime Corn Maze @ Historic O'Keefe Ranch The O’Keefe Ranch welcomes guests of all ages to find their way through our brand new corn maze. The first of 3 that will open this year, the Summertime Corn Maze is good old-fashioned fun for everyone. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to reach the end of the 2 1/2 acre maze and it’s full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. IPE Rodeo @ IPE Grounds It's time for the 119th annual Interior Provincial Exhibition! Head to the Grandstand on the IPE grounds to watch the action of the Rodeo! This popular event starts at 6:45 pm each night of the IPE! During the Fair, Rodeo Tickets are sold from 8:30 am to 7 pm at the IPE office (across from the fairgrounds). Then from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm each day, tickets are available for purchase at the Rodeo Ticket Booth on the grounds in front of the Red Grandstand. Length Of The Lake 2018 @ Kin Beach Join us on Sunday, September 2, 2018 for this one-of-a-kind Ultra-Paddling race on scenic Okanagan Lake! The race starts at Kin Beach in Vernon at 7:00 AM (6 AM for early starters) and ends 100 kilometres later on Okanagan Beach in Penticton. In between are four on-shore aid station/check points where paddlers and their support crews will find water, washrooms, and parking.The race may be long, but the list of rules is short. In a nutshell, crews must arrive at each check point before the designated cut-off times. Crew changes are optional, but may take place only at the check points. Race registration includes an after-race dinner and some kind of swag. Race categories with three or more entries by the early registration deadline (midnight August 18, 2018) are considered official and are eligible for prizes. Unofficial, including “build-your-own” categories are welcome and are eligible for bragging rights and a place in the Length of the Lake Ultra-paddle history books. |

Observational Astronomy: Software, Simulation, and Apps @ The Vernon Library Astronomer and Simon Fraser University instructor Robert Conrad will lead an in-depth look at using software, simulation, and apps to further your understanding of observational astronomy. Participants will apply what they have learned on their computers and smartphones and people should bring a fully charged laptop PC or MAC with Stellarium installed. Those in attendance will learn how to use the free and powerful astronomy software program to understand the motions of the sky, learn the constellations, plan for and practice observing deep-sky treasures. This software can also be used to practice the art of star-hopping as well as learning about the types of deep sky objects that are of interest to observational astronomers and how to locate them in the night sky. |

Words of Our Chiefs @ Vernon Performing Arts Centre The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly presents Savage Society’s Words of Our Chiefs on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre as part of the 2018/19 SPOTLIGHT Special Presentation Series. The Savage Society performs a staged reading of Words of Our Chiefs; a dramatic enactment of the Laurier Memorial, an historical document petitioning Sir Wilfred Laurier in 1910 by the Allied Chiefs of the Interior Tribes of British Columbia, to recognize and help them fight for aboriginal rights. This powerful document outlines the Aboriginal experience in the BC interior since first contact. Signed by the Secwepemc, Syilx and Nlaka’pamux peoples at Spences Bridge, British Columbia in 1910, the ideas and emotions expressed in this 108 year old historical document remain relevant to the First Nations experience today. Created with community members of Lytton and the Nlaka’pamux Nation, contributing artists in Words of Our Chiefs include Kevin Loring, Aaron Wells, Kim Harvey, Ron Dean Harris, Sandy Scofield and N’laka’pamux community members. The performance will be opened by a performance by Mariel Belanger, a Vernon-based multi-disciplinary artist of the Okanagan Nation, Okanagan Indian Band, Vernon. In the short time since its formation, RUMBLE100 has rocketed to the forefront of the Okanagan party scene, accelerated by its high-energy performances and popular song selections.
